16 -19 Study Programme
How does TBS meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?
All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial applied or academic qualifications.
The Blandford School Sixth Form programme consists of:
- A Level 3 programme. The Level 3 programme is a two year programme and composed mostly of academic A Levels. There are five applied courses on offer (Cambridge Technicals in Health and
- Social Care, Business, Creative iMedia and Sport). We also offer an Advanced Academic Qualification (AAQ) in Health and Social Care.
- A Level 2 programme. The Level 2 programme is a one year programme consisting of Level 2 CTEC in Business and Level 2 BTEC Travel and Tourism.
- Access to resit GCSE English and/or Mathematics or Functional Skills where required.
- All students have an hour of Sixth Form Sport per week to encourage physical activity.
- Students may supplement their courses with Level 3 Core Maths, EPQ, Silver DofE and Level 2 or 3 Sports Leaders.
All our students study programmes which offer them breadth and depth. allowing students to specialise in areas of strength and interest while maintaining academic rigour. Teaching is delivered by subject specialists who support students to achieve excellent progress. Students take part in a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their future aspirations and prepares them for higher education and the world of work. Students are supported to develop independence, resilience, confidence and professional skills that prepare them for adult life.

- All students have 2.5 hours of Personal Development per week, which covers the statutory guidance for PSHCEE and RSE.
- All students have access to university and employer visits as well as Apprenticeship and employment support.
- Students eligible for the 16-19 bursary fund have regular meetings to discuss their progress, progression plans and how the bursary may be used to support their education.
