The Blandford School year 13 students are celebrating after receiving their A Level and Level 3 Vocational results this year.
Sally Wilson, Headteacher said: ‘I am incredibly proud of this year group who had their GCSE years disrupted by the pandemic and lockdowns, to see them succeed despite these challenges is fabulous. Students and staff should also be extremely proud of the fact their performance is well above national comparators’.
TBS continues its tradition of students securing places at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities where they will study a variety of subjects and start the next stage of their education or begin employment. Although much has been written in the national press about this year’s results and young people missing out on their chosen destination, we are thrilled 92% of TBS students secured their first-choice university.
Students in the Class of 2023 are embarking on varying degrees at HE establishments across the country, the furthest North being Durham; the curriculum at TBS is strategically broad which enables students to have significant choice in terms of Post 18. The following courses have been chosen this year and are not an exhaustive list: Medicine; Paediatric Nursing; Adult Nursing; Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies; Physiotherapy; Occupational Therapy; Natural Sciences; Comic and Concept Art with a professional placement; Architecture; Archaeology; Zoology; Japanese; Computer Science; Ancient History; Artificial Intelligence; Aerospace Engineering; Environmental Management and Sustainability; Costume Production; Teaching; Criminology and Criminal Justice; Business Management; Accounting and Finance; Real Estate; Professional Policing; Psychology; Politics and International Relations; Social Work; Philosophy.
Two year 13 students are also working as teaching assistants during their gap year and others are embarking on employment.
As Vicky Moore, Head of Sixth Form/Assistant Headteacher commented: ‘We always encourage students of all abilities to follow their dreams and carefully consider all opportunities to secure their future ambitions; it is brilliant to see such a wide range of courses taking many TBS students to other parts of the country where they will meet new friends and embark upon exciting new challenges. I wish them all luck and look forward to hearing of their future successes.’.
