Enrichments

At The Blandford School, we aim to engage all Sixth Form students in a programme of enrichment designed to support personal development, wellbeing, and preparation for life beyond school.

We actively encourage and monitor students’ engagement in enrichment activities, believing that involvement provides them with an advantage in future university applications, apprenticeships, or employment opportunities.

Some particular highlights include:

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
We offer the Bronze or Silver Award in Year 12. For the Silver Award, students undertake volunteering, improve their physical abilities, develop a skill, and participate in a three-day hike, walking around seven hours per day, with two nights of camping—one of which may be in a wild camp setting with no facilities. For further information, please see our Duke of Edinburgh pages or contact us directly.

Trips and Visits
Our Sixth Form students have opportunities to take part in trips both in the UK and abroad, including destinations such as Italy, Spain, and other countries. These experiences provide cultural enrichment, broaden perspectives, and help develop independence and confidence in real-world settings.

Mentoring
We actively encourage Sixth Form students to mentor younger students across the school. By sharing their insight into school life, specific subjects, and life skills, Sixth Formers provide valuable guidance and support. Teaching staff may also invite students with particular strengths to assist in lessons for lower school students.

Student Voice
The Blandford School holds regular student voice meetings with representatives from every year group. These meetings give students a platform to advocate for their peers and provide constructive feedback to staff.

Extra and Super-curricular

We believe in enriching the curriculum as much as possible to give students the best and broadest experience and ensure that they are prepared for future progression, whatever their chosen pathway may be. We also offer a week of work experience for all year 12 students to support their progression plans. Level 2 students and vocational students studying a Diploma may also complete an ongoing work placement for half a day or a day a week.

The possibilities of activities on offer to students are endless and if it does not already exist, we will happily help you organise it! We firmly believe that taking part in the activities we offer will enhance your future applications for universities, apprenticeships and employment. We have clubs in drama and music in addition to sporting activities. In addition to taking part in clubs sixth formers also have the opportunity to run or support clubs and activities for younger students. We take part in Young Enterprise, Rotary Young Leaders, Young Researchers, Maths and Science Challenges, D of E and Level 2 and 3 Sports Leaders. We also take part in a wide variety of university progression programmes working most closely with: University of Exeter; Bournemouth University; University of Bath; University of Southampton; Bournemouth Arts University; University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Finally, the annual school production always receives amazing reviews with our Sixth Formers taking the lead in challenging roles. We also have a close link with the YMCA and fundraise for the homeless of Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth by sleeping ‘rough’ for one night each year.

Student Voice

In Year 12, being a part of Bold Voices was a really rewarding experience for me. I loved working alongside younger students to hear their perspectives on certain topics. Opportunities like this make you stand out from the crowd, and our Sixth Form staff drive for you to achieve your full potential.

Student Voice

The balance between freedom and responsibility, and teacher led guidance is second to none. character development is facilitated fantastically whilst still receiving excellent levels of support.

Student Voice

My teachers teach with such enthusiasm for their subjects, they constantly fuel my curiosity and intrigue, making learning in the sixth form feel like a true privilege. I feel that I have truly found my passion and purpose throughout these past two years.

Student Voice

The opportunities to get involved in sports, trips and social activities are endless I 100% suggest you get involved in all things offered to make the most of your time at sixth form TBS.

Student Voice

Going into sixth form means being able to work more independently however, the support given to me inside and outside of lessons has been outstanding. All my teachers have provided me with extra activities that are designed to build upon the knowledge we learn in class in order to help deepen or understanding of the subject, not only so that we perform our best in exams but also to provide us with better background information around what we learn.

Student Voice

The Blandford school sixth form offers amazing opportunities that have helped me grow. from the senior maths challenge to being a main role in the musical. These chances that we are given continue to allow me to thrive in a fantastic environment.

Student Voice

The Blandford School Sixth Form has provided me with a multitude of opportunities that allowed me to understand my university course of choice before making my final decision. From encouraging me to join Exeter Scholars and the In2Med programme for aspiring medics to organising for me to do practice interviews, without all of these I don't think I would be in the position I am right now. I would encourage anyone joining us to make the most of these as well as the one to one time you have with tutors to talk through the options you may have and find the best course for you.
