STEM Opportunities for Year 9-13 students

EDT is an established, UK-wide educational charity. We work to encourage young people to engage with STE(A)M activities and achieve their potential in STEM careers and opportunities for further study and employment.

When COVID-19 cancelled our face-to-face programmes, we got straight to work making our courses online so that no young person would miss out. Throughout the past few months we’ve been working closely with our stakeholders to offer and improve new ways of engaging with students and to continue our work towards fulfilling our vision of providing access and opportunities for all. We have shifted our programmes to a virtual setting and included these fantastic offerings in our range of activities for Year 9-13 students.

Year 13

EDT Placements: The Year in Industry (YINI) scheme helps place students aged 17+ in top UK companies and organisations, giving students the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and experience of working within one of the following industries: Science (particularly physics), Engineering (all areas), Technology/Electronics, Maths, Business, Finance, IT, HR or Marketing across the UK.

It is open to any student with the Right to Work in the UK, who might benefit from gaining 12 months paid work experience with a YINI company.

If your student is unsure whether to continue into higher education or go straight into employment, considers a paid gap year before an apprenticeship or studying a degree at University, then YINI is a fantastic way to test drive their future career, gain skills that demonstrate competencies on their CV while also earning a competitive salary.

Students can register online now for a September 2021 placement.

Year 9 and 10

We have an exciting virtual Routes into STEM course for young people aged 13-15 to discover all the exciting routes into a STEM career whilst experiencing life at college, university and company through virtual tours from the comfort of their homes.

On a completion of this course students will understand the diverse routes available to them after studying for GCSEs including apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, and gain a Bronze Industrial Cadets award, a well awarded industry led accreditation.

The autumn term course is open for applications until 21st October.
