The Governing Board has the following core strategic functions:

Establishing the strategic direction, by:

  • Setting the vision, values, and objectives for the
    school
  • Agreeing the school improvement strategy with
    priorities and targets
  • Meeting statutory duties

 

Ensuring accountability, by:

  • Appointing the Headteacher
  • Monitoring progress towards targets
  • Performance managing the Headteacher
  • Engaging with stakeholders
  • Contributing to school self-evaluation

 

Ensuring financial probity, by:

  • Setting the budget
  • Monitoring spending against the budget
  • Ensuring value for money is obtained
  • Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed

There are three committees that meet during each academic year.

Two of them (Resources and Standards) have delegated powers.

Resources Committee

The Committee is responsible for all aspects of the School’s budget and premises together with ensuring the School is compliant with both employment law and education law as applicable to employees. 
Responsibility for health and safety falls to this Committee.

Standards Committee

Chair : Mrs G Dunning

This Committee monitors the quality of teaching and the curriculum by providing effective challenge to the Headteacher and staff to
ensure that provision is of the highest standard possible. The Committee is tasked with monitoring interventions implemented through the use
of the Pupil Premium.

Further, the Committee is tasked with ensuring that the quality of the learning experience and progress of all students is such that there is
outstanding achievement and enjoyment experienced by them.

Chair: Mr J Bertelsen

The Committee considers the strategic objectives for the School in collaboration and consultation with the
Senior Leadership Team and by agreeing the strategic objectives and the actions contained within the Strategy Development Plan with the Headteacher. The Committee will then recommend its adoption by the Full Governing Board.

The Committee will also consider any matter affecting the strategic direction of the School and make appropriate recommendations to the
Full Governing Board.

Minutes of meetings of the Governing Board are available on request to the Interim Clerk. Confidential minutes, however, are not available to members of the public.

Normally, minutes will be provided by email but if hard copies are requested then a small administrative charge will be made.

The Governing Board is always interested in speaking to parents or members of the wider community who are interested in becoming a

SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATION

Dear Parent/Carer

On the advice of Dorset Council, due to storm Eunice all schools in Dorset have been advised to close due to the Red Weather Warning in place for Dorset from the Met Office.  Therefore, The Blandford School will be closed in line with this advice on Friday, 18 February and no school transport will be running throughout Dorset.  School will reopen on Monday, 28 February 2022.

 

For Friday, 18 February work will be set for students by teachers on TEAMS.

 

We hope you all have an enjoyable half term and look forward to seeing students again on Monday, 28 February 2022.
